NEW DAY...FRESH START...

Hi Everybody,

I am officially starting a blog from me directly today.  I was going to wait until after the season was over.  But in light of all of the fan mail and feedback, I figured today would be a good time to start.

This week’s results were pretty disappointing.  I admit I’m upset about the outcome.  Not even for myself but for Brandy, who is an AMAZING partner.  I can’t tell you enough how hard she has worked to return each week and perform.  So I am very disappointed. I don’t deny it.  I am sure some of you saw that in my interviews.

But the last few days, I woke up each day to a ridiculous amount of messages and notes from fans to my website and facebook and twitter.

First, let me just tell you all how completely humbled I am from the responses, support, outrage on our behalf, and just love from all of you.  So many people are true fans and appreciate Dancesport as much as I do.  Some of you know how for me Dancing is a huge part of my life and my entire family.  We take it seriously.

Many of you said what I felt, that Brandy was AMAZING and deserved to go onto next week.  To see so many people following us and truly wanting us to be in the finals this season was amazing and just humbling at the same time.  So all I can say is thank you, everyone, for taking the time to message me.  There are not enough words to let you know how comforting it is to have that support at a time like this.  I have told Brandy some of the same things you have messaged.  She is a champion in my book regardless of those results.  I was honored to have met her and danced with her.  It was a great season. I have no regrets.

But as this is my blog, my choice of topic and my own opinions, so I do want to address some of the issues that have come up as relates to Brandy & I on various forums, discussions, and even some odd comments I received from a few gloating about last night’s results….

1.       My Arrogance- I am pretty passionate and also pretty blunt.  I think my passion and straight response gets sometimes mistaken for arrogance.  I may be strong in my belief.  Maybe that is tough for some people. But I have learned to live a life in black and white, with little shades of gray.  Like in dancing, there is a right way and a wrong way.  There is no middle ground. I generally am passionate about perfection and doing things the right way.  I give my point of view as I see it.  I do not say I am more right than anyone.  But it is what I believe.  I don’t mean to be rude or abrasive.  But my passion drives me and I believe being passionate about your work is important.  It is unfortunate if that my passion is mistaken for something negative.  My partners, friends and families know where I come from. I feel strongly and I express myself that way but arrogance assumes I think I am better than the rest. I don’t.  I am no different than anyone else. I just am strong in my opinion.

A.      Brandy’s Past- I believe people make mistakes. Look at any of the magazines out there today, everyone from politicians to celebrities, to local people in your community have made mistakes. I am not sure what the right punishment is for people who make mistakes.  I come from a very tough household.  We try to be the best in all that we do.  All of my life I have striven, trained, and worked my a$$ off to be where I am.  But do you think I have never made a mistake in my life? I am sure this won’t shock anyone.  I have made plenty.  Some punishments I’ve suffered are worse than others.  But ultimately, I have learned that the worst punishment comes from myself, from within.  So one thing I learned to do is I live and I learn. And at some point, I have to move on from the past. It is unhealthy for anyone to live in the past.  And it is unhealthy for others to punish you constantly for past mistakes.

So I am addressing this to tell everyone, leave the past in the past.  I hope you all see what I see in Brandy today.  She is a big hearted, gracious, amazing person.  She has heart.  She is a sweetheart.  And I have nothing but love for her.  She will remain a great friend to me.  I am behind her 110% in all of her endeavors today and in future.

B.      My attitude/Carrie Ann/Judges- If my attitude jeopardized Brandy, then I apologize for that and  I feel just terrible for Brandy.  The show shouldn’t be about what I think or feel or how I teach or choreograph.  This show should be about the celebrity contestants that put a tremendous amount of effort into working to learn how to dance and perform in dancesport.  My argument with Carrie Ann was about that.  Don’t judge Brandy for my choreography or how I trained her.  That is not Brandy’s fault.  Ultimately, she should have been judged for her technique, effort, and her dancing in comparison to the others.

Did Brandy do a good job?  She did absolutely incredible every week.  I think she overcame her own issues and insecurities each time she came out onto the dance floor.  She came with composure, no drama, no tears.   She came to compete.  I couldn’t ask for anything more than that from my partner.  She did wonderful.

Sometimes the viewers didn’t see the other side.  The struggle, the worry, the emotions she did go through just like the other celebrities on there.  That is the magic of video editing and I can’t control what they choose to show you.  I’ve mentioned that before as well.

But I apologize to Brandy,  if my passion about putting the focus where it belonged caused more an issue than my real intent.  Ultimately, I am a choreographer, an instructor, and her partner.  I wholeheartedly wanted to make it to the finals because Brandy, in my opinion, truly deserved to be there.  If this competition were about me, I would still be competing against dancers of equal skill.  But I was not competing.  Brandy was.  And she was an amazing partner and dancer and in my opinion, the best this season.

What can I say but that I am beyond disappointed that her talent, her skill, her improvement, her technique seemed to be overlooked or undervalued in comparison to other competitors each week.  Maybe some of you will disagree. Maybe some of you feel good about certain celebrities over others.  That is not what I, as her partner and coach, am concerned with.  I pushed her to bring the best she could each week.  I was hard on her.  I trained with her daily about her movement, her technique, her footwork, her body posture.  It was tough, frustrating, hard, a work out.  And I pushed for her to give me perfection.  She did, btw.  I just wish this is where the focus should have remained with the voters.

C.      Brandy’s Response That Night- For the record, this is my job.  I have been here a few seasons now.  It does not affect me the same as my partners.  But no one should begrudge anyone the right to their own personal reaction and processing as best as they can.   Was Brandy in shock when the results were announced? Yes.  Did she assume she would be there in the finals as some have suggested? No.  We were both nervous.  But she really wanted and hoped to get a shot in the finals.  The reality of that not happening had to sink in.  Losing a competition for any one is tough. But losing so publicly with the intense focus on you is extremely nerve racking.  Brandy had a tough moment.  But who wouldn’t have in her shoes.  Give her a break.

Before this week, I have mentioned a few times that behind the stage many of the celebrities from this and past seasons have taken being voted off badly behind stage. That is the truth.  And maybe I’m one of those guys that sees black and white and feels terrible to see them go through it, regardless if they are my partner or not.  I hate to see someone hurt.  And I would stick up for anyone who feels bad after a show and reading the posts about them.  I will always also try to protect and defend my friends and those I care about from getting hurt, too.  Wouldn’t you?

D.       Voting Issues- This season more than others I heard rumblings of issue with voting and the phone lines.  Unfortunately, that is not something I control or am knowledgeable about.  If there were phone issues, let ABC.com know. I hope that no foul play existed.  I assume it didn’t.  All I can say is I hope the DWTS producers look at that for future shows.  But at this point, the results are in.  It is what it is.  And I will look forward, not backwards.

E.       Politics- I am a dancer. I leave politics to the politicians who are good with using media and propaganda to their advantage.  It shouldn’t be on the dance floor.  I am simply a dancer, an instructor, and an entertainer.  I hope you enjoyed our dances each week.  That ultimately was our goal.

F.       Next season & Me- I can’t speak to next season.  All I will say is that I have had an amazing 9 seasons. It has been an amazing experience, challenging, fun and rewarding.  I have met and worked with amazing people.  I appreciate the opportunity to have been on the show and have no regrets with regard to participating.

As my first blog post, this is the start of many.  You can now get it straight from me via my twitter or my blog.  Hopefully, more to come with less heated personal topics and more positive things to focus on….

Talk to you soon.

  1. Maks, I have been everywhere leaving posts about this. You both were truly amazing. There will be no DWTS for me without you. I am not watching again. Brandy was stunning and I truly love to watch you dance. You have given me many seasons of enjoyment. You have been robbed. I wish you the best and will truly miss Mondays and Tuesdays without you.

  2. Well said! I hope this puts many issues to rest. I hope you continue with DWTS as you are by far my favorite professional. Best of luck to you and Brandy in the future!

  3. I am so happy to hear your words, not taken out of context and not spun in a way that makes them "not your words." You are an amazing dancer and teacher and honestly the only reason why I continue to watch the show. I refer to you as "my future husband" which makes my husband of 24 years a little nervous! Keep up all the awesome work you do and thank you for the blog. I'll be following you (not in a stalking way) lol

  9. I adored everything you said in this post and everything I've heard you say. As someone else who gets slammed for being blunt and opinionated, I have to say, "So what?" Keep talking. There are so few real voices of reason.

I do think Brandy was the all over best and should have won, but I wasn't surprised. TV shows are about hype more than content. As are politics. The same is true with books, as I've learned. You can only do your best, as she did, and I very much appreciated the lack of whining and crying. I started out supporting her because of you, but I ended up supporting her because of her.

Kudos for another incredible season with your partner.

  10. Very well said Maks! And I don't know how much this will really mean since you don't even know me, but I really think Carrie Ann was in the wrong in that one episode. It started off the way so many of their critiques do. She said, "I didn't like this," you said it was your fault, and then she went all crazy psycho bitch on you. It absolutely was unfair to Brandy because, like you said, she was just doing what she was taught. I was shocked that she got voted off. She deserved to be there so much more than some of the others. You guys did an amazing job and I was really sad to see the 2 of you go.

  11. Maks, this is such a beautifully written post. Brandy was amazing and you are an incredible dancer/teacher. I personally refuse to watch the finals now (unless you and Brandy are going back on Tuesday to show your freestyle). Please keep us posted if that happens. I think you were robbed with Mel B and you were robbed with Brandy. Maybe you should start your own dance show. :-)

  12. Maks, we ALL know there was foul play. Bristol's supporters have admitted to cheating publicly. Some of them have said that WE could cheat too, but c'mon, spending the time to make hundreds of fake accounts to vote for a reality show? A reality show that many of them don't even watch! I wouldn't do it, and I would think that my preferred dancers (Jennifer & Brandy) wouldn't want me to.

I was slow to warm up to you and Brandy, I admit. However, you both won me over with your terrific routines, and it was just so sad to watch Brandy hear the news of her elimination. We all know that she deserved to be in the finals.

Thank you for addressing all the rumors and speculation. Your honesty is greatly appreciated.

  13. Not only are you the best dancer on DWTS but you are also a great writer. Thanks for posting this. It was a great read. Brandy has a true friend in you. I certainly hope so see you back on the show next season and I am looking forward to reading your next blog!

  16. Maks...I live by the Dr. Seuss quote "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." Keep up the good work!

  17. Maks, I think you're absolutely right and you were robbed... Just an FYI for you:

"Here's a hint: They don't have to be VALID email addresses to register them with ABC.com, there is apparently no validation process," said one commenter. "They just have to be formatted like a valid email address, and... you must use a valid zip code and a birthdate that makes you old enough to vote. No, it doesn't have to be a valid email address - I had one of my anonymous ones XXX@yahoo.com that I used, and then just did the sign-up process all over again with XXX1@yahoo.com and it worked."

Maybe you could make this information even more public. The voting is rigged and wrong, at least with online voting. Its absolutely ridiculous.

  18. Maks! Great blog - well written and very complete! Please have your agent contact Nigel - there are many of us dancers/dance teachers who would love to see you judge and/or choreograph for SYTYCD. Best of luck to you and give Brandy a hug from me!!

  19. I think that about covers it all. I was actually saying to my husband that in many ways, you're like Simon Cowell was on AI and I mean that as a compliment. It's clear that you're as passionate about dance as he is about music and you're very clear and direct with respect to that passion. All too often, however, that passion is misconstrued for arrogance because of that "Nice Girl/Boy" Puritanical attitude we tend to admire so in our society.

Pity. I find your approach rather refreshing-- at least there's no mistaking where one stands with you. Much better than playing guessing games.

Best of luck with whatever you do next, which will hopefully include another DWTS season.

I love the positivity in your blog, well written, you're the best. I love your dancing. I do strongly believe that you've been robbed out of the finals this season...but like you said, look ahead not back and with that said I look forward to seeing you in the upcoming season and cheering you on like I always do. Love you Maks...

p.s. I refuse to watch the rest of this season!

  21. Wow, Maks, I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of that. Thank you for sharing with your fans. It's hard to just follow what you're saying on the little blurbs on twitter, and I bet it's even more difficult for you to try responding to everyone. Sadly, this season was my first season ever watching DWTS, bit I'm glad I did. I truly enjoyed watching you and Brandy perform week after week, giving me goosebumps as I got excited about your amazing performances. In mind, I know you two truly are winners. Wish you both the best.

  25. PLEASE COME BACK NEXT SEASON! You make the show. ABC should have specials with just all the DWTS pros performing. I hate those Macy dancers on the show. I like it when the pros we know perform. Thanks for the blog and you better be back next season!

  27. Hi Maks, I just read your blog and it was wonderful and should be read by everyone having issues with DWTS and the results as well as just getting to know who you are a little better. I admire and love how much passion for the dance and compassion you have for people. You are a good man/dancer/teacher and that is just one of the reason's I felt you as well as your partner (Brandy in this case) deserved to go to the finals. Whereas you say this competition is about the stars and how well they dance, in the end it is also about the dancers who are their teachers and you are such a wonderful teacher, I feel it needs to be recognized. That is why I vote every week, because I want to see you and your partner/s win that mirrorball trophy, as does many others. I truly do hope to see you next season and if you have the notion to come back to Monroe, MI for a visit like you did last Christmas, that would be great, lol. Just saying you have tons of fans here in Michigan and meeting you then was was great. You are a very nice person. Anyway, I hope you have a great holiday with your friends and family.
    Love ya, Jill Wynne

  28. I will definitely be a subscriber to your blog. Not only do I think you're hot (LOL), but you are driven, passionate, and very talented. I love watching you dance.

How do you feel about the public voting? After the past couple of seasons, it seems more a popularity contest then a dance competition. I think ABC shouldn't let the public vote until maybe the semi-finals. Let the judges do their job and filter out the celebs that aren't trying or really don't have the ability to dance. Once you get to the finals, then the public can help decide. This would be after we've had a chance to really get to know the contestants in this forum.

I hope you are back next season. Give my regards to Tony! He and Audrina did a great job this season too and deserved to be there longer as well. My votes are now going to Kyle, he's adorable and he sure does entertain! :)

    Have a wonderful day!

  29. Powerful words! Still support you and Brandy and whole heartedly agree about each issue. It is unfortunate that DWTS has become such a popularity contest over the seasons. I thought Brandy handled getting voted off very well, but it is unfortunate! I voted as many times as I was allowed! :( Sorry to you both that all of your hard work has not been recognized!

  30. I am a faithful DWTS watcher (been watching since Season 1) and I must say, this season has been the most shocking in terms of who has gone home prematurely. Even though I was disappointed with Tuesday's results, I can say that I thoroughly enjoy watching you and Brandy bring it each week. Continue to do what you do as a choreographer, dancer and entertainer. You're one of a kind and 1 of the best to ever bring it on the DWTS dance floor! Looking forward to seeing you on future seasons and even 1 day holding the Mirror Ball Trophy with your dance partner!

  31. Fantastic first post! You really said it all.

This whole situation reminds me of those incidents where "sports parents" get into a fight in the stands. The parents are beating the hell out of each other over a GAME and the kids are standing out on the field scratching their heads. Somewhere along the way, everyone forgot that it was supposed to be FUN!

I challenge anyone to imagine themselves in your shoes. You've worked damn hard, your partner has worked damn hard and you get blown out of the water. Tell me you would be able to hide your shock and disappointment. We all express ourselves differently and most of us are lucky enough we don't have a camera in our face when we react.

What saddens me the most is how the public has reacted. Regardless of how you feel, these are PEOPLE you are talking about. Real people. All of the public venom online and in the media is so uncalled for. Would you walk up to someone and say the same things. I bet you wouldn't.

  32. hey maks,
great post.i enjoyed reading it and im definitely sad to see you and brandy go.i was one of your supporters, but as you said it is what it is.

i also have a question.who do you think was the best dwts celebrity in the entire history?i can only speak for myself, but i thought that it was mya and i was completely shocked that her salsa (the one with her solo) or other dances havent made it to the top 10 dances and werent even included in the abc.com list of dances one could vote for.also, mya was always very quiet on the show...did you guys get a long with her?

i hope to see you again next season and i'll definitley vote for you and your next partner:)

  33. Hi Maks,
I come from a background filled with music and dancing. Here in the caribbean we have wide variety of music and the dancing to go along with it. My background is seeped in african and indian culture and then that of my country Jamaica, where there is lots of reggae. Having a passion for dancing is great, i have one however I don't dance much, but i get pleasure from watching others dance, hence me watching dancing with the stars. DWTS is a great show, i love the journey that each star takes with their partner from the very beginning to the very end. I have cried and laughed along with everyone else during the shows. Being passionate and blunt is a good thing, that way people know that you are not hiding behind a facade, they know that what they see is what they get, that is in now way arrogance. I was just as shocked as you and Brandy were about being voted off and i must say I shared my views on that on the DWTS Facebook page. Brandy is a great dancer and she deserved to be in the finals. The good thing is that she will take what she learnt from you out into the world and be happy, in the end that is all we can hope for happiness......

  34. Maks, very well put. Thank you for taking the time to explain, but you shouldn't have too. People need to step back and think as to how it will affect the person they are writing about before writing their comments. You are an awesome entertainer and I have had the chance to personally meet you in Chattanooga and yes you are a very sweet humble man. Hopefully the outcome of this season of DWTS won't discourage you from coming back next season. Tracy

  35. Thank you for starting your blog now. We are grateful to hear from you.

I've been watching DWTS for 10 seasons. No question you are a fantastic dancer, as are many of the DWTS pros. Are you a tough teacher? Yup. But we've seen other teachers get tough as well. Just pointing out that if you're thinking you were unfairly represented during the season, I would say no more than others during other seasons. So don't beat yourself up so. It made for great TV; even the sparring with Carrie Ann Inaba. Though I wouldn't make a habit of doing that.

There is so much I would love to say, but to keep this short and sweet.

I'm thinkin' you need to get Brandy and get back to the studio. Start working for next week show as if you were in the finals. Fans have voices and they're starting a storm. You should be ready. Anything can happen. This is still, after all, America.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Maks, I have been a fan of yours for several seasons. I even got a chance to dance with you when you taught the "Mel B Mamba" at a dance studio in Illinois one year. I think the integrity of dancing and singing shows gets compromised when it becomes more about personalities and popularity than the art of the dance.

I think you and Brandy were the victim of "studio editing" that never tells the whole story and paints you in whatever light will yield the most ratings. Your passion and love for what you do is evident and I hope that you continue to work with intensity, integrity, and verve. The next time you're teaching in the Chicago area, please post on your blog or website. Take care. Das Vadanya.

  37. Our country is all about being able to speak freely, and I am so happy that you are not politically correct. You spoke your mind to Carrie Ann, and when you did, you also spoke on behalf of me because you voiced what I had been thinking and saying for many seasons. I had complained about the exact issue to ABC.com in the past. I also believe you spoke for many other fans of DWTS. Anyone who appreciates dance knows how much you love it and how passionate you are for the Dancesport, You are perfect example of the American dream. Anyone who labels you arrogant is not only misguided, but is totally wrong. I think whenever a shocking elimination like this happens, there will be theories, but in my humble opinion, I think it came down to basic popularity and the plain and simple fact is that Bristol came in with no performance experience, and people just related to that fact. I don’t think, however, the hard work Bristol did and the improvement she has shown should be overlooked. Do I think she's the best dancer, no. I guess one could ask if Kyle should be in the finals too since he's a wonderful performer, but his technique isn't the best. His personality is infectious, and I’m sure that is what helped carry him through to the finals. This season has been full of shocking eliminations, Brandy's probably being the most shocking. Frankly, I thought Brandy, Jennifer and Rick would be in the finals, and that it would come down to Brandy and Jennifer and that it would come down to who did the best freestyle, but alas, it was not to be. The bottom line is you have always given 110% to your partners -- you worked them hard, taught them well, and instilled confidence in them, especially Erin and Brandy, who came to DWTS at a low point in their lives. You helped bring back their confidence and the smiles to their faces. That is that is success with a capital "S." Mak, you have entertained us for nine seasons, and for that I say thank you. I truly hope you will return to DWTS because you bring entertainment and beautiful dancing into our living rooms, and you have helped get people up on their feet and dancing, plus you’re not too bad on the eyes either. ☺

  38. Maks, as a blogger myself and a huge fan of DWTS, I appreciate your humility. Obviously, this season has had several shocking moments, you and Brandy being the biggest shock. I think it's completely unecessary for the negative backlash Bristol Palin has received and also any negativity that you (or Brandy) have recieved, such as being blamed for the elimination. Most of America doesn't know about dancing and technique so the public votes for who they want to see dance again, whether they are good or not. Unfortunately it seems that most shows like this have become "who has the most friends/fans" whatever, a popularity contest as I'm sure you have heard it referred to. American Idol has also seen good singers voted off based on fan votes, despite their talent. I love watching the show and I hope you will continue dancing for the next season. Your time (for the mirror ball trophy)is coming. And everything happens for a reason.

  39. Your post is eloquent and to the point. I too have been reading these articles and some of them are absurd. You and Brandy are/were fantastic each week, and I am truly sorry to see you leave the competition. I am one of the ones that vote each week based on actual dancing skills...not based on popularity. I may not have been dancing as long as you, but I have been for 23 years. Dancing is a passion and to see those who share that passion warms my heart. The ones who continue to make it through, but that passion doesn't reach their eyes...disheartens me. Your comment upon leaving the show that evening showed what a true gentleman you are. I do hope to see you on DWTS next season. They would lose someone truly gifted if you were not.

  40. You did what you do best. Teach, Inspire and Create. As people who have followed you, took classes with you personally you deserved to be in the finals. You hold your head up. YOU did what you were supposed as a gentleman and a teacher you stood your ground for your partner.

  41. Maks,

Thanks for starting this blog and addressing some of the issues from this past week. You and Brandy were wonderful(as were you and Erin, you and MelB, etc) and I will miss not seeing you in the finals.

I look forward to following where ever life leads you next via this blog/twitter/etc.

    Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving!

  42. Anyone who questions your motives or decisions as a pro has lost their mind! There's a reason you've made it so far in everything you do. Anyone who can't see that is simply brainless or blind! I love dwts but am the first to admit that I sometimes get discouraged from watching when it becomes more of a popularity contest than a dance contest! Thanks for the blog! It was awesome!

  43. Well said! Hope we still see you on DWTS in the future. You are my favorite dancer! You dance with such passion and purpose it always has me glued to the tv. So sad that Brandy got voted off :( I was really hoping you guys would win! Much love to you and all that you do in the future.

  45. Well said! I particularly like your explanation of the difference between arrogance and a strong opinion. I can relate to that myself and, for what it's worth, I see passion and conviction in your interviews--not arrogance.

You and Brandy deserved to be in the finals. This should be a reminder to all viewers that being outraged doesn't help if they didn't bother to vote during the contest.

Best wishes to you both! (And, if at all possible, please show us your Freestyle Tuesday night!) :-)

What you, your family, and your friends think is the most important. I love you! And you have so many supporters who look forward to seeing you dance again! What you do is so beautiful, you made my week every Monday night when I got to watch you...

  50. So happy to see you with this new blog! I already follow you on twitter, but know you have a lot more to say about things than 140 letters will allow! I definitely feel like you and Brandy should still be in Dancing With The Stars, you have been the best pair on the show from the beginning. I hope this won't be the last season we see you on, you bring such amazing talent and ability and strength to the show, and to the celebrity partners you have each season. There is nothing wrong with you being as passionate as you are, you call it like you see it. Can't wait to read more of your blogs!

Who you are is not simply just what you do....you are what's in your heart and soul....so I appreciate you for this blog and reminding the fans that who you are, Maksim, is not simply a pro dancer/choreographer but you are so much more than that (although def a wonderful one haha) you let your heart and soul shine on this blog and Im certain the masses will be reminded of your heart and soul first and then your awesome gift of dancing! So shine on! Press forward...never looking back or down unless you're picking someone up :) shine on!!!

  56. Maks, it's unfortunate that you needed to address these issues as if to justify your actions. You are who you are. Look within yourself and if you feel confident in everything you have done in life and with your dance partners and you stand by each action and every word exchanged, then you shouldn't worry about gossip/trash talking individuals. Take it from where it comes. You and Brandy will both grow from this experience and better things will come of the situation. Trust in that. Believe in karma my dear. Enjoy life!

  57. Bravo Maks. Very well said. It's a shame that people can't differentiate between arrogance and pride in one's work. Their loss! I was a fan of yours long before my son played you in Celebrity Ghost Stories. :-) Why? Because of your work ethic, your honesty, your integrity and your dedication to the sport of dance. Stay strong!

  58. Maks! I really appreciate you taking the time to do this blog. It helps us get more of an insiders view into your mind and heart. It's a wonderful place to be! :) Thank you for going to all the trouble to explain yourself (ie attitude) and Brandy even though you truly didn't have to. We only see what the media portrays and it's easy to make a judgement on people based on that. This gives your fans a way to truly get to know you and see that even though you are famous, you are not inaccessible. That's pretty sweet.

Keep your head up and keep dancing. We love you.

  59. Wow, thank you for taking the time to address us! You seem to be a very loyal friend and committed professional. I wish you luck in this season where the spotlight is on every move you make. God will turn this around for good, and your fans will be praying for you. Have a great weekend. :)

  61. Maks,

It is so great to hear your actual opinions! I follow you on FB, but know that you don't have time to read everyone's comments and reply.

I think you are an amazing dancer. I have looked forward to watching you every week and to watching your partner(s) grow and become better each dance. I think Brandy has true heart and talent. She should be in the finals and I was shocked when she was voted off. I did do my part each week and voted for you. I was so looking forward to your free-style! Bruno did ask you to come back next week and perform it. Is that something that could happen? Probably not, but wishful thinking!

I hope you return next season. You are one of the main reasons I tune in!

    Happy Holidays to you.

  62. Dear Maks,

Thank you for a beautifully written and impassioned blog! (The passion is even there on the page!). I appreciate the way you are because whether it's a passionate response (angry or not), a light-hearted moment with a dancing partner or an off-the-cuff moment for the camera, what you give is 100% truth. I love that about you and am now a fan for life.

You are a perfect example of someone who could absolutely coast through life relying on your looks and charm to get by and instead you put forth (as your name dictates) maximum effort, maximum results every time. You inspire me to be better and I thank you for it.

I wish you everything in life you wish for yourself and your family. May all of your dreams come true.

Looking forward to next season of DWTS (with you there) as this season has already ended for me as far as I'm concerned. I will not watch the finale and if you and Brandy do dance in it, then I'll watch it on You Tube!! I found you and Brandy to be completely mesmerizing. You both don't appear to have ever looked better and you both danced beautifully. You brought me to tears so many times. The Waltzes were exquisite, the Rumba, breathtaking, the Tangoes, WOW!!! You both should feel proud of your performances which are there on You Tube for the rest of time!!
If the only thing negative someone can say about you is that you are arrogant, then you're doing good. One man's arrogance is another man's passion and drive.

    Nothing but love.

Even though many of us believe you should be in the finals, you are great to say how you feel, and not matter what i'll contiune to support you <3

  65. Maks...you don't have to post this comment. :-) But I did want you to see this. http://barbcushing.blogspot.com/
My last post from August 1, 2010 discusses the filming of your Celebrity Ghost Stories episode. My son is as passionate about his acting as you are about your dancing. He shares your work ethic, your passion and your determination. I am SO happy that he now sees you as a role model. You share some similar traits; passion, and bluntness. Like you, he comes off as being arrogant when that's not the intention. The CGS shoot was 16 hours long. It was filmed in an abandoned hospital in Forest Hills, New Jersey in sweltering temps. He was in every single scene and took a total of 15 minutes rest the entire time. He is not a dancer but yet worked extremely hard so it would at least appear that way. For him, every scene had to be perfection. Like your dances. :-) I hope he did your story proud!

  67. Well said on all points. As someone that watches the show as a sports fan, you've just earned even more loyalty from me. Politics and other "impurities" affect all sports. Refs, timekeepers, scorekeepers, and media all have influence in the outcome of any athletic contest. There is no pure objectivity and human nature is human nature.

It's funny to me to see people criticize you for the same exact passion and commitment level we see from a Peyton Manning, or a Tom Brady. You do things the right way and if the outcomes aren't perfect, you understand that's part of how things are. Don't change.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Nice blog! I agree that you & Brandy were robbed. I watch DWTS because of you & I'm done watching. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't come back. You're a very talented person who I am sure has other endeavors and opportunities besides DWTS. If it's any consolation, I don't think you're arrogant & I understand your passion. I wish you the best of luck & much happiness in your future!

  71. Maks? If you get a chance, please check this out. http://barbcushing.blogspot.com/ My last post from August 1, 2010 deals with your Celebrity Ghost Stories episode. My son shares not only your work ethic, but also your passion. His, however, is for acting and not dancing. The CSG episode filming took nearly 16 hours and was filmed in an abandoned hospital in New Jersey in sweltering temps. My son was in every scene and took one 15 minute break the entire time. He is a perfectionist, like you, and made sure that every scene was perfect. He is NOT a dancer, but worked hard to make sure that it appeared that he was. I couldn't have asked for a better role model for him and truly, that's how he sees you..someone who took something they were passionate about and made it their life, knowing it wasn't going to be easy. Thank you!

  72. Hi Maks
I wanted to thank you for making this season the most incredible season. I looked forward every week to watching you and Brandy light up the dance floor. Every season is incredible when you are on!! I think that DWTS is extremely lucky to have such an amazing dancer. This past week was very disappointing to me because you and Brandy deserved to be in the Semi Finals if not the winners this season. I think that the voting was extremely unfair this week and I think it was a political thing. I really hope that you are on next season as you are who I look forward to seeing. I believe that you deserve to win a season because of your talent. I wish you well and look forward to reading your blogs.
    Love,
    Sarah

I think I started enjoying your attitude and style last year and how you worked with Erin to overcome her struggles. You changed and we were able to see the softer side of you.

  75. I've watched DWTS from the very beginning so I consider myself somehwhat of an expert now;) Having watched you for all 9 seasons you have been on and having had the pleasure of meeting you once in NYC after Burn the Floor, I can honestly say that the "arrogant" persona ABC has foisted upon you is just that.....a fake persona the producers have used to increase ratings. Every good show needs SOME drama but the fact that they have been so blatant about portraying you as the "bad boy" and a certain other male pro as the "golden boy" has worn a little thin for me. Don't get me wrong I LOVE that other pro and completely understand that his "golden boy" status is just a manipulated by the editing as your "bad boy" image. But, as all good soap operas go...the bad boy should get his moment of redemption. I am truly sorry that Brandy was the person so affected by this weeks fiasco. Having said that I truly believe it was more the fact that certain parties (not necessarily a contestant but people associated with them) have tried to take over the dance floor with their politcal views that caused the outcome than it was the core, loyal DWTS viewers being put off by you or Brandy personally. That is a sad reflection of how desperate those factions have become to somehow remain relevant and in the media spotlight. It is unfortunate that the contestant, who by what little we have truly seen of her real personality is probably a very nice person, has been used as she has by so many people. I find it deplorable that ABC has subjected this young person to such an experience in the name of ratings. Stunt casting will only boost ratings for a season or two before loyal viewers like myself are so turned off we turn the channel. The viewers they bring in with stunt casting are viewers who will only watch as long as the one particular controversial contestant is on camera.
Brandy is a beautiful person who deserved this experience to help find her true self again and move forward from a devastating period. I won't say move on because I know it is something that will remain with her forever but it is not something that need define her life. She can and should move forward with grace and dignity.
Those of us that love and appreciate the true arts truly do appreciate you and your passion and dedication to Dance. We truly wish the best for you in all of your future endeavors be it on stage, TV or in the studio. I would be among the first in line to purchase a ticket should you return to Broadway.
As for DWTS....I'm not sure how I feel about the future of the show. If they were to go back to their roots and stop the ridiculous stunt casting I will be willing to remain a loyal viewer. As for this season, sadly it is as over for me as it is for you and Brandy. Probably moreso because I am not contractually obligated to appear on camera next week:) For the first time in all 11 seasons I will not be watching the finale. A drop in ratings would be the only thing that would really attract ABC's attention.
I'm really looking forward to your blog. Thank you for being willing to allow dance fans to share in your experiences!

I am behind you 100%.

Brandy was a wonderful dancer and should have been in the finals, I wish her well and gave her all my votes every week. She has the heart of a champion (as do you!)

  83. You're awesome, Maks! You've always been my favorite pro dancer on DWTS. Your passion and humor is top-notch. I haven't followed the news too much this week, but I truly felt Brandy should have won and was outraged at the results. On here you speak of your future with DWTS and how nothing is set in stone... I hope this is true as it would truly be a shame to lose your presence on the show. It's great watching you and your way of doing things (with Erin, with Brandy, etc.). I do hope you'll return to the show as it would not be the same without you! Take care and carry on!

    ReplyDelete
  84. This is I'm sure for you a bittersweet way to start your own blog! As I've said many times, you are the only reason I watch DWTS! You are such an inspiration both personally & professionally to me & I'm sure to the thousands of people of all ages who watch you & learn from you. I have never agreed with any of the negative remarks about you - though we have never met, I sense the type of human being you are - hard-working professional in every sense of the word but more importantly you are generous with a warm beautiful heart & a graceful spirit that shows in the eloquent & heartfelt way you speak & in everything you do! I feel so bad about Tuesday - to be honest, when I saw Tony go, I was afraid something like this would happen but I kept telling myself that the producers would not risk the integrity of the show for political reasons! I guess I was wrong. I e-mailed ABC & the producers with my thoughts as to the only fair, just way to correct this - having a dance off (like they used to) between Team Brandy & well you know who. They could hold in the curtained areas used for the insta-dance so you couldn't see each other but the judges could & have both do same dance same music same time!
If you & possibly others that have been disrespected this season, don't come back for the next season - I wouldn't blame you but it would break my heart not to see you again.
Please, PLEASE no matter what happens keep in touch either through this blog, Twitter, e-mail or even snail-mail! Please I do not wish to lose touch with one of the most gifted, talented, blessed gentlemen and genuine human beings I have ever had the honor & privilege to experience! Truly watching you is not just a performance it is an experience! Take care!

  90. Hi Maks, I'm in the UK and will see the show air tonight but already know what has happened.... sometimes there is no justice in the world, for all sorts of unexplainable reasons.

If you check out the UK equivalent (Strictly Come Dancing) you will see a lady called Ann Widdecombe, who is in the quarter finals, she has managed to knock out some amazing dancers and it is beyond me why people are voting for her..... it must be comedy value sadly.

As for your attitute, that makes you, you.... when did being passionate about what you do become a crime? Your first blog is from the heart and that is what matters!

I have total respect for you & hope to see you dance here in the UK sometime soon!

  92. As always, Maks, you write eloquently and from the heart. I've been watching DWTS from Season 2 and I have never thought you came across as being arrogant. Just confident and passionate about the subject at hand. And that's pretty damned refreshing in this day and age, let me tell you!

It has been entertaining and enlightening watching you teach Brandy this season. You are an amazing teacher and coach! Watching Brandy come along each week was awesome! (And your Argentine Tango - of course it came from something special, it glowed with it - was a dance that will remain one of my all-time favorites of ALL the seasons and dancers.) Watching you and Brandy grow in your friendship was lovely to watch too. That last smile and tiny kiss - man, that's gonna stay with me a long time.

I hope you come back to the show for many reasons, not the least being that you are the one pro that concentrates on dance itself as opposed to lots of flash and tricks. You are a true Professional, Maks.

  93. I loved that you posted a blog and answered so many questions others I know have wanted to hear rather than them assuming things. We know what can happen when you assume! I've been a huge supporter of you on DWTS and don't think that will ever stop. But I've also been a huge supporter of the partners you get as well because I know how hard ballroom dancing is - I have two left feet a lot due to a deformed foot that had to be corrected when I was a toddler and know my limitations to even attempt this type of dancing. But it was always a dream to be a ballerina, something that had to remain a dream, so I live vicariously through others which gives me so much joy! Seeing you all teach others and dance yourself brings a smile to my face! Keep up the great work!

  94. Wow, Maks well said. Being of Ukrainian heritage and an offspring of Uki born parents, I totally understand the mentality of an Eastern European person. First, you are mature beyond your years and very passionate, which is a characteristic trait of an Eatern Euro. man. I can truly say you are a kracivey cheloveek and support you and always have 100% on your comments. Brandy (and your efforts) based on skills and performance should be the winners of this seasons competition for a person who was a non dancer. The other day on AOL they already have posted on the news about this competition that perhaps something not kosher happened. We all know Maks, who is the best skilled perfomer period. Never mind what unethical thing if any, happened. You are the expert Maks, you know the business, and you know who should win period. Thank you for the years of sharing your talent with us and something enjoyable to look forward to during the autumn season on television. I met you once at your NJ studio last June, I was the late one, however I got to see you as a serious outstanding teacher, and truly deep down inside a sweetheart of a man. Loved seeing your dad walking around. Family and the love of God is the most important thing, the rest is just icing on the cake. Can't wait until this Jerseyboy comes back home. Before I forget veechnaya pamyat for your Babcha.

I have to admit, I was not always home to vote for you guys, but I was rooting you on in my heart. And don't listen to what the haters have to say. All us true fans know who deserved to be in the final and who the true winner should be. I hope to see your freestyle on Monday, if time permits. Look forward to reading more posts from you. Love ya! 96. Maks, you haven't said a thing I didn't already see, hear, understand or sense about both you and Brandy. I respect you highly for your forthright and honest approach to your life, to others and your role on DWTS. You can be trusted. I see nothing to apologize for but it appears you've stepped up to take care of that in case others do. I see you as someone who is there to keep 'em honest and I honor the role you've played. Things happen for a reason, even though it might not be clear at the time. This isn’t over and you may be playing a critical role in making things better. Keep the faith!

Your life should not defined by the challenges you encounter but by how you respond to those challenges. You DO NOT need anyone's permission to be your true self. Now I want to see more of YOU on that dance floor shaking what your momma gave ya! You're a magnificent dancer and an extraordinary person. Love ya and would love to dance with you one day. Hey, a girl can dream can't she. (@MEnKT)~Twitter.

  99. Just want to say I loved watching you and Brandy this season. She is beautiful and brave and she made so much improvement. It was so clear how committed she was to doing her best, and that's all anyone can ask of themselves.

The thing that bothers me is people judging Brandy for her honest reaction to the results. Would people prefer her to be disingenuous and pretend that she didn't at least hope to have a shot in the finals? She had a very realistic chance of going forward, and she should not have to pretend that she didn't know that. I much prefer her honesty of emotion to any more politic response she could have planned beforehand.

I think the most poetic, beautiful, and very sad thing about that night, and why it will make a lasting impression on all of us who watched, is that Brandy's performance of the Argentine Tango earlier in the evening was so stunning. Any of the little things that she had problems with technique-wise over the course of the season were gone. Her strength, her liquidity, her lines, her arms, her embodiment of the the soul of that dance were all flawless. The fact the the Argentine Tango is such a melancholy dance just made it more powerful given what that night was all about. She had to say good-bye to something she loves—the show—and she did it so gracefully and with no words through the dance. I could watch that performance over and over.

The results are what they are, but no one can take away the beauty that you and Brandy created for us during the season. She—and you—truly are stars.

  100. Hey Max

Brandy has always been my idol since I was 9 years old, I am now 24. Seeing her perform was like watching my sister dance. Her personality shined like a star. I believe this show was a blessing for her to do. I was so glad you were her partner. Not only because your the hottest thing walking this earth haha...but because you can dance your ass off. The chemistry you too have, I've yet to see with anyone else. Hold on to her Max....6 years is a long time to have your heart in a box, waiting for the right one to open it with love and confidence =) you guys should have your own reality show =) love u guys...and love the blog. Thanks for explaining.

  101. Nicely said. I just want to take the time to tell you how much I admire you and what you do. You are so talented. I've never been one for dance. Hell, I never even went to a dance in high school. But I was forced to watch DWTS last year and when I saw you move, I was hooked. It's fucking mesmerizing. Beautiful. And not to sound too horribly stalker like but damn you move so sensually, it's a huge turn on. Dance is so beautiful and I wish I had one ounce of the confidence and talent you portray. I'm actually tempted to buy your workout dvd so I can try and learn some moves. I'm sure I'd be horrible, but you inspire me. It'd be a dream come true to be able to dance like you.

Second, I just want to say you have been robbed. You and Brandy were the best dancers this season. You had the heart and the talent and were entertaining. I'm sorry that politics sullied this season. It shouldn't be a part of this show. The dance should be the focus. I also don't understand how people say you two seemed so arrogant and it was off putting. You were passionate and believed in what you did.

I think I understand how you're feeling right now. You're probably pretty pissed off but are trying to put on a good front for the media. I told my mother I doubt you'd be back next season. But I really hope you prove me wrong. The show needs you. You're an amazing teacher. You make your celeb better. You aren't afraid to speak up about what you believe in. You have changed the way I view dancing and I won't forget that.

You are my new favorite person. I believe in you. I adore you. Thank you for opening my eyes.

Sorry for rambling and I hope you take time some day to read this message. Love always, Nikalyn

  102. I'm so sorry that you felt you had to defend/explain yourself. You are straight up, you don't have to justify your actions to anyone. Brandy was lucky to have you as a dance partner, and you both should be so proud of your season. The goosebumps I felt when you two danced occurred on MANY occasions, and for that, THANK YOU.

As for the people who don't understand your passion...well... they'll never understand, and that's ok.

Bravo for being you and putting it out there, but just remember you have nothing to defend.

I look forward to watching you again in the future Maks!!

  103. Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts with us, Maks. You are class from the word go! There is not an arrogant or "bad boy" bone in your body. As someone with many slavic friends, I appreciate you more than you can imagine. I "get" it. My soccer players were the exact same way on the field - filled with that "passion". Without passion in our lives, we die.

Keep being yourself, Maks. We all love you for it!

I never thought anyone could surpass the relationship/partnership you had with Mel B, but you did it with Brandy. I came to appreciate her so much by watching her interact with you and have complete trust in all you did each week. What an amazing journey you both took us on this year.

Thank you - Maks and Brandy - for giving us one fantastic season! This outcome just makes me appreciate you both that much more.

Have a fantastic Thanksgiving with your family. Hope we see you back next year and for many seasons beyond.

    A humble fan,
    Lisa

  104. Great new blog! I know I have enjoyed all of the dances I have seen you do across the seasons - your partners have been very lucky to have such a passionate and skilled partner helping and teaching them!

  105. Thank you Maks for the wonderful blog. I also agree with what you said on your TV Guide blog...it was meant to be for you to learn spiritually from Brandy and Kurt. I know from talking with Kurt over Twitter, my faith became even stronger than it already was. God can even use a dance show to bring good things to people and the world. I know He has wonderful things in store for you and Brandy, and I'm so excited for your futures. I can't wait to see what's next for both of you! :o)

  106. Maks - I am so exicted about what the future holds for you! You are much bigger than DWTS and you have a lot of offer, and I can't wait to see what you will be doing next.

I have had the pleasure of meeting you -twice in the last three years! You have always been most kind to me and very much interested in helping me get the most from my dancing. I will always be greatful to you for that.

Thank you for sharing so much of yourself in your new web site, YouTube page, and now this wonderful blog. Your fans appreciate it.

As for DWTS - I am fininshed with the show (at least for this season) and won't be watching next week. The show has hit a new low and it's very sad. I came to adore Brandy just as much as yourself - she is such a sweet person! I have become a fan of her as well!

Take care Maks. We have your back :-)

  107. So impressed to have read this. You did a beautiful job with brandy and because she got votes off doesn't make her any less of a radiant champion. You guys rock and I've gained much appreciation for you through this! Keep rockin on:)

  108. You "BOTH" have a lot of positives to take away from this experience and that is what you "BOTH" need to dwell on now--not the winning of the mirror ball or the NOT winning of the mirror ball :) You are so much a winner---in each others eyes and in the eyes of MANY fans --worldwide !!!!

  109. Maksim yoare a great person dancer and teacher.Don,t let the negative people and comments get you down. You and Brandy continue to keep your heads up. Iam no longer watching Dancing With The Stars. They have continued to treat you and Brandy and your past dance partners with disrespect.Ihave called ABC to give them a piece of my mind.I wish you the best in all that you do.

  110. Well said. I started taking dance classes last year for fun and enjoyment and part of that was because I had watched DWTS and figured it was never to late to start. You and Louis Van Amstel were a huge part of that and I hope you continue on with that show or another - watching you was a great inspiration.

  111. Great blog Maks. I'll admit I was one of those who thought you came off as arrogant on the show. But after reading this I now have a better picture of the situation. I'm one who believes Brandy did not deserve to be let go. Even though I like Bristol Palin, I still thought Brandy was a better dancer. You did a great job in your instruction and it showed. I finally figured out this week that this show has become more of a popularity contest than a show about true dancing ability. That is sad. Keep up the good work man, and don't let 'em bring ya down!

  112. I have so enjoyed watching you with all of the passion and enthusiasm that you show in your dancing and your teaching. It is obvious that you have an extraordinary ability to trust and to work with your partners to get them to trust you. Brandi really got a bad deal. Because of the whole Palin thing (and actually starting back with Tom Delay) I think they should keep all political people off the show. It is too devisive and takes away from the dancing. Palin should have been off the show in week 3. I hope that Brandi knows she has the support of so many people. I hope that you will come back next year but if you don't thanks for all your efforts to entertain and teach us something.

  113. Maks, this season was my first time watching this show week after week. I admit, you came off with the arrogance you mentioned. But after reading this blog that came 100% from your heart, you now have become one of my favorite professional dancers. Just say it as it is! Don't change, man! Keep it real. Everything you said and defended was right on. If you have to stand up against Carrie-Ann, do it! She can be a wacko herself w/ her polarizing judgments. Be the straight shooter among these dancers. I was sadly disappointed on what happened in this week's results like millions of others. I know Brandy wanted this so badly and truly believed she belonged in the Finals. I grew up on her as a kid with her music and her dancing was among the top 2 next to Jen. And I was so happy when Monica came out to support her knowing both used to be rivals and are now wonderful friends. But alas, we will have results like this year season after season. The voting system needs a revamp. I have nothing against Bristol personally. It is not her fault in any of this and I knew she gets wrongfully crucified everytime the name "Palin" comes up because she can't get out of her mom's own shadow. But the producers simply can not hire politicians or kids related to one anymore. I feel the creators wanted this controversy to boost more ratings and that is wrong! You feel cheated. Politics should never be involved in the art of dancing. Anyways, I will try to watch it NEXT week and hope the results are justified if Jen or Kyle wins. If not, more broken TVs and the Tea Party ruined what could have went down as the greatest season with an amazing cast. If Bristol wins, I will have a hard time watching Season 12. I still love the production values of this show and love the bond people create on here. I watched all the previous group dances on YouTube and smiled each time. People are just having fun out there and I hope it continues. Hope your friendship with Brandy will always stay strong and your relationship with Erin stays even stronger. Take care, man.

  115. Very well said Maks! Truth be told I watch DWTS more for the pros then the celebrities, I feel I have gotten to know you all and would hate to see you not be on it again. I personally don't think you all (pros) get enough credit for what you do. Thank you for a great show and something the whole "family" can watch and enjoy together.

  116. I've been following DWTS off and on but I only started to watch you with Erin Andrews and Brandy. You took great care of both of them as dancers and as people. I love your honesty. Bluntness can be mistaken as arrogance but don't let haters destroy you. You are great at what you do and it shows on screen. Keep it up Maks and good luck!

  117. The comments in your blog were well said, and it is unfortunate that one has to explain these thoughts and actions. I was definately a Brandmc fan. I was so looking forward to you guys making it to the finals. I definately expressed my disappointment in the voting system at abc.com and will no longer be watching DWTS. Brandy comes across as beautiful person inside/out and I wish the best for both of you in your future endeavors.

  118. Dear Maks,
I am Ukrainian also. And very passionate. I too believe in justice. I think it must be something that runs in our genes. What happened last week was propaganda in its purest form. In my opinion, there is no way that Ms.Palin should have moved up to where she is today. Especially when click farms can manipulate online voting. I am thoroughly disgusted that my favorite program has turned into a political arena for Ms. Palin and her mother. Bristol dances like a bear in a dress, maybe because she grew up in Alaska. It is called DWTS, not dancing with the advocates who are riding off their mom's coat-tails. The Palins can wag the dog all they way in media arena, but to do so in a show based on talent and growth is inappropriate. My parents came here to flee from dictatorship. To see it overshadowing entertainment is disgusting. BTW Bristol Palin of advocate is BS. It was made such to put a spin and to promote her mother. Her language on DWTS is appalling. Her sister, Willow, having to take down her FB due to homophobic bullying, is interfering with the message and brand of DWTS and now I read the click-farm train of her social media campaign is making this about politics when you are right, it shouldn't be on the dance floor! Bristol claims to be an ordinary person. When did the producers flee from casting what the title is, dancing with the stars. I hope the network learns from this. Politicians and their relatives should no longer be invited to participate with the show. I also feel Marc knows in his heart what took place with the voting was wrong. I feel he should be courageous, and a man, and step down because of all the controversy. I dont feel your passionate attitude played a role at all in this dance-gate. If any, it was just the role of scape-goat to overshadow the click farm social media Palin campaign. I will be writing to Marc, the producers, etc. that he will make more of an impact resigning and bringing the focus back to dancing, then being the water-boy for the Palins. Much luck to you and Brandy. I feel horrible for her, she tried so hard and her efforts went without notice (in my opinion) because of politics. What a shame! Tell her not to give up, that his platform was just the start for her. I will be writing to ABC and may get a group of friends to go to the show on Monday/ Tuesday to protest this. In a country where money talks and politics are so upside , we need to set boundaries and not allow politics to flow into our favorite show. I hope the network does the right thing and show integrity for those who are inspired by your dancing, so much so that they become involved with arts education. I know the social network is hard at work , some silly ass by the name of BetchaBeth is harassing me on Twitter with Willow-Like comments because I said Bristol shouldn't be dancing.... Now I guess they are about censorship too. Last time I checked this was America!
Best of luck to you and Im glad you are writing this blog!

  121. Great Blog Post! Ur honesty is refreshing, and inspiring! U stand up for what you believe and there is NEVER any shame in that. Not to mention I agree with everything you said. Brandy was amazing as were you and though I'm not "mad" at the show, I won't be watching again. No reason getting all irritated over something that can't be changed. Your voice, opinions and passion are things that I hope rub off on others. Good luck in all you do! I think you are the male version of me lol just saying

You're just awesome and I hope that all of your future endeavors, whatever they may be, are filled with joy and many goals achieved.

  123. What a beautiful way you have with words! That comes from your dancing heart, believe me!
Everything you say is absolutely the truth; I couldn't have said it better myself. In the midst of the shocking finale of Tuesday night, you stepped up and gave such a majestic speech about everyone's right to a vote in America. I sensed that the live audience was as stunned as were all the rest of us watching from home. And remember this, all week long anyone talking about DWTS is talking about Brandy & Maks, NOT about any of the others! This season will be about the two of you more than any other contestant, so consider that to be a "win" above anyone else.
You take your dancing seriously, and anyone who knows what it takes to be a true dancer could not ask for anything more! We look forward to seeing you in the next season of DWTS should it be what you want, and if it is not to be, then come back to Broadway and NYC; your many fans will be thrilled beyond measure!
My best to you, and give our love to Brandy; she has been the consummate professional this season! That is because she has been dancing with one! My best to you.

  124. Now that's how its done! Maks, you are a true professional and a gentleman! Thank you for that!

  125. Maks, I am still shocked that Brandy was eliminated. I have written many articles about this season's "Dancing with the Stars." However, I doubt I'm going to watch the show next year, regardless of how popular DWTS is and regardless of all my DWTS writing opportunities. Here is my current article. (We know what went down in season 11. If we watch season 12, and we get angry again, we have no one to blame but ourselves.)

Bristol Palin on 'Dancing With the Stars' -- Should the Progress of the Other Season 11 Celebrities Be Ignored?

  126. Its so funny how the media have twirled the whole issue around and some people dig up excuses to hate brandy. They dont even want to acknowledge her vulnerability, laughter, emotions and dorkiness on the show

All i have to say is that its an american thing. People wake up to learn that dark skinned girls also are girls with emotions Learn to relate to them

By the way Maks you did your job with spirit and you were excellent at it. It was excruciating when u guys were eliminated especially when Brandy cried. Allow God guide your decisions. Also matters, not in our hands to decide, happen for a purpose :)

    ReplyDelete
  127. Maks, really appreciate you starting a blog and sharing your thoughts on everything that has gone down since elimination night. I used to live in London and followed Strictly Come Dancing before the format made it over to the States. What I loved about the show in its early years was its simplicity and the sole focus was on "dancing". It didn't matter about the celebrity as long as week in week out they demonstrated good dance technique, performance and overall growth. Somehow the show, especially the US version has lost its way all for the sake of ratings. The ABC execs really need to pay attention otherwise they risk losing one of the very few decent shows we have left on TV.
I've been a fan of Brandy ever since she came out with her first single. We are about the same age and I could relate to her because our personalities are very alike. We love to smile always and not let negative things bring us down. We cry at everything...but that doesn't make us less strong. We love our family, friends and would do anything for them. We strive to be the best we can be but at the same time stay humble. I am so glad you both were partners. You both brought out the best in each other and that alone is worth more than any MBT.
I cried when you two got eliminated…and even cried some more when I watched the post elimination interviews. Like most of the nation said, you guys were definitely robbed. Seeing you both in the finals would have been spectacular because I know for sure you guys would have shut the place doowwwnnnn!!!
I would like to share one of my favorite poems with you and Brandy. It is by Marianne Williamson:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
You and Brandy should forever let your LIGHT SHINE!!
    -Jen

  128. I agree with everything you said. I am and have been a fan of Brandy since I was a little gir. I am outraged at this season because I watched Brandy everyweek and also voted. I was having issues with being able to vote from both of my cell phones and so I emailed ABC.COM. And guess what? No one responded and I continued to have those issues. It is not fair because I know that the voting was not right. Not when I reached out to them weeks ago, have proof that I reached out, and no one responded nor fixed my issue. It is upsetting and disappointing.

    ReplyDelete
  129. The fact that Brandy was surprised just means that she really thought she was going to make it to the final...which in turn means that she thought she was a better dancer than another couple who could have gotten kicked off.

What people seem to forget is this happened a few seasons ago, with the Cheetah girl and Mark Ballas. She was voted off early in the show and hardly anyone made a big deal about it. She was a favorite to win.

That is life...that is what happens...it isnt always about dancing...it is about how many fans a person has so that they receive the support and hopefully the votes via text, phone and online voting.

If you are upset, I think you should be upset that you didnt win with Laila or Mel B. Now those girls SHOULD have won with you. Funny thing is, that wasnt made into a huge ordeal.

I am a huge fan of yours and was sad when I heard a few years ago that you wouldnt be coming back (good thing that didnt stick and you came back!).

I think a lot of what people are saying is true...there are some people...not all...that can relate to Bristol. Someone who has not dance, sports or performance background (kinda like Audrina) who comes on the show and slowly progresses. Most of us who watch the show are just like her...we are not performers but people who work a 9 to 5 to support our family and regardless of your political affiliation I think you need to respect that. Someone who is putting themselevs out on the line like that. Granted, I dont think Bristol has handled the situation completely the right way, but then again, sometimes when you are in the limelight, not by choice, you dont always make the best decisions.

Additionally, people should keep in mind, it is not like Bristol put a gun to everyone's head and asked for the votes. People voted on their own accord. Whether or not is the way that you or I agree with, it is their choice on how to vote. One of the many benefits we have living in America. I dont get why people are so mad at Bristol. It isnt her fault any more than it is Brandy's or Audrinas. If anyone wants to get upset with anyone else, it is the fans who should be on the receiving end. Maybe it just means more people will pick up the phone and vote.

With regards to the critics who have something to say about you and Carrie Ann...different people, different opinions and everyone is entitled to it as long as you can be respectful. No harm in stating how you feel just like there is no harm in her, as a judging, to state how she feels about a peformance.

Good luck with your future in dancing and I hope to see you again on DWTS...I really do hope you win the mirror ball throphy one of these years. You deserve it.

  132. Maks, beautiful post for your new day. None of us are right about everything or get everything we want. But all good people (and that's most of us) have a sense of justice, right and wrong and an internal compass to guide them through life. Ignore those and the purpose for being here is compromised, if not lost altogether. Personally, my compass seems to be in sync with yours if that means anything to you.

The only souls not making mistakes are either unborn or dead. Someone once told me to start each day expecting to make a minimum of 30 mistakes. The number is irrelevant; the perspective in that concept is what matters. People who acknowledge mistakes, learn from them and make efforts not to repeat them are living real and honest lives and they're growing toward excellence in character. I wasn't even aware of Brandy's past "mistakes", if that's what you want to call them, prior to the show. To me, Brandy's loving character came right through that screen each and every week. I grew to admire her depth and her goodness. There aren't a lot of Brandys today so they stand out when we meet them.

This season on DWTS was different. I sensed in the beginning that it might be problematic but I hoped I'd be wrong. So I haven't been surprised. For me, the show changed from being an oasis of escape and entertainment to a place just like a lot of the other hours in my day dealing with things that could have been avoided. But that's life. Whether I return as a viewer will depend on whether this has been a fluke or the beginning of a trend. I have voiced my concerns to the show site on ABC.com.

In the meantime, I wish you every success with each new day you meet. There's so much passion and inspiration in that hot body of yours for us and I look forward to your next post here.

I'll close with some dancing advice for you...Keep your chin up!!

It is so sad that you guys were eliminated and I feel your pain! Your teaching is exactly what pushed Brandy to be the best she can be and if people can't see that, then that's just a shame! I voted for you guys every week as much as I could making tons of account on abc.com but I still don't get how you guys got eliminated. I don't know how Bristol could have said something that bad about you to maybe interfere with the votes?? I don't know but your not a person that would do that! Well I really hope you comee and PLEASEE saty on FB and keep in touch with us, fanss! Your amazingg so I hope you will be on next seasonn <3

I love that you're you,and that you don't apologize for that. It's refreshing. You're passionate, and you want your partner to do the best they can. I've watched from day one. I won't blast Bristol, however it's Dancing With The Stars, she's not a star, she's a speaker. Brandy and you weren't amazing you were HOT HOT HOT! Don't listen to len anymore, I for one say more taking off of the shirt next season for us fans Maks. Thanks for giving us fans this blog, and you being you.

  137. Maksim,

I didnt know anything about you a month ago.I am not a big fan of TV shows - too fake and fixed.I bumped into an old intervew of yours and I was impressed by you smart comments and ultimate opinion. Then I googled you and this is how became a fan of DWTS. Guess who I voted for :)
You are raised as a champion.Val,too. You are THE real deal. Period. Some people dont take others success easily.

I dont think you are arrogant at all.It is a culture thing- not been cheeze, and not sugarcoating everything you say for the TV here...Isnt it how a real man should sound like anyway? Please, dont change. That is the way we were all raised "in the other side",lol

Your life story is very inspirational. You have paid such a hight price and you (your family) so deserve your success.
Hope you dont give up on dancing ever.Thank you for sharing with us !

    Love and Light ,

  138. I'm so happy to see that you finally created a blog and it's just you! The DWTS result for you and Brandy was simply irrational. You two were the best!

I love watching you dance and hope you'll continue working with the show in spite of what happened and the emotions resulting from that. Hopefully ABC is getting the message that the voting process doesn't work. I live on the East Coast and never could vote via the phone this season at all, so something is definately wrong.

As for the haters, don't feed the trolls! Don't respond...that's what they want, they feed off it...so, don't feed them!

I'll be watching for you to come back next season! Gotta have my "Maks" fix!

  140. Maks,
Very well said! I have been talking about this for days now. I just cant believe it! You and Brandy were amazing! I looked forward to your dances every week, but like you said it is what it is, and now we must all look forward. I have watched DWTS since the beginning, and automatically "fell in love" with your contagious personality. I love how your not afraid to say whats on your mind or how you feel, I love how passionate you are about what you do, and of course how devoted you are to your partners. I hope to see you on DWTS again, it just wouldnt be the same without you. I do wish you the best of luck in all your future adventures.

  141. Hi Maks,
It is because of you, that my husband and I are dancing - we've been doing this for 3 years and love every minute of it - BECAUSE OF YOU!! Thank you. You and Brandy were wronged - but, it is what it is, and until the producers of the show get a hold of the inconsistencies in the judging, it will never change.
You are wonderful - an exquisite dancer; much luck in all of your endeavors.

  142. Maks, you are a fabulous dancer and wonderful person. Unfortunately, passion for one's work is often misunderstood. I have always been of the opinion that being passionate about your job/career is a positive trait, but I have been criticized for that in the past, even being told that I was "too passionate." I'm not even sure how that is possible!

In my mind, if you aren't passionate, you're more than likely apathetic. I believe apathy leads to mediocrity... and, if you're shooting for mediocrity, why bother at all?

You've brought those of us who love DWTS so much joy over the years, and I hope to see you back next season. Whatever you decide, I wish you the very best - continued success and all the happiness you deserve!

  143. Hi Maks, great to see you've started your own blog, I love hearing your (sometimes blunt) opinions :)
I just saw the results today, and was utterly shocked, and disappointed. First Audrina & Tony and now Brandy and you - I just don't get it!
I am disappointed with the results coming out of this season of DWTS, but the dancing as always keeps me coming back for more, your Argentine Tango was AMAZING! I loved watching you 2 grow as a team too, it was wonderful to see your friendship grow over the weeks. Whatever the results say, you're my Champions of this season.
People are funny they see a million different things when all looking at the same picture - I know what I saw, and I loved it. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to hearing about and hopefully seeing your wonderful dancing again soon. :)

  144. Hi Maks,
This is only the 2nd time I have watched dancing with stars and voted in the 9 seasons it has been on. I watched the very first season on and off. I am a long time Brandy fan and when I heard Brandy was going to be on I decided to tune back in. I did not know who you were until this season but I liked you right away. I love how honest and direct you are. I hope you always poses those qualities. You are an incredible dancer and instructor. You truly transformed Brandy. Her growth was incredible to watch. You gave me a greater appreciation of the hard work it takes to make quality dancing look effortlessly and beautiful. I started the show as a Brandy fan and now I am leaving the show as a fan of dance, a Maksim fan and still a Brandy Fan. I look forward to all future projects from you and from Brandy. God Bless you both.

I just have to add about the voting issue. All season long I and a group of my friends who are your fans, brandy fans and fans of the show voted for you and brandy with phone lines and all our e-mail accounts. This group consist of about 20 of us. We never had any problems voting for you. On Monday night I started my calling after your first dance. From then until the time the show went off. Your line was constantly busy. I could barely get through at all. I tried for 2 ½ hours. My friends had the same problem. What normally took me 20 minutes to do from all my phones took 2 hours ½ hours and I still did not get all my voting complete with my phone lines. Voting online was no easy task either. Every time we clicked on you and Brandy’s name after each vote it logged us out and we had to log in again. The site was horrible. I had never experienced this problem all season long. I say this because I hate when people say “well there was no fan support” that is so no true. You and brandy have a lot of dedicated fans. There was a problem with voting that night. If it was one person then I could say it was fluke but there are many people saying the same thing. I did report this to abc.com so that it can addressed in the future. But as you said the votes have been counted and the results are in and look forward not backwards. That is what I intend to do. Everything in live happens for a reason.

  145. Maks,
Thanks for starting this new blog that comes straight from "you".
I am glad that you have opened your heart out to us all and to explain everything. It helps other people to understand you better (I'm on your Forum, so I know and understand everything there is about you, so far).
You've put across of lot of great points that helps to define this past season with Brandy, and you couldn't have said it better. Don't be sorry where you shouldn't be. You are who you are and it is correct to stand up to people (Carrie Ann) when need be.
Politics don't belong on the dance floor and since this past Tuesday, every video I've re-watched on You Tube, I stand by my testament that "this is politically incorrect".
As you have said, you will defend others. As for us (the Forum Ladies + others who have become longtime fans of yours now), we will defend you in every way, shape or form.
We are very proud of you and all the accomplishments you have achieved. Striving for perfection, I believe, is all within us, but more so for you, because of what you are doing out there (especially with Brandy this season on the show - well, not only this season, but everyone of them that you've been on.) You do your best, and that's what counts here.
Brandy has come out of this as an excellent dancer, and you trained her beautifully! When you think about it, you brought out "the best in her", which is amazing! Every week we were completely in awe of what she did with you on the dance floor, and I truly believe that she is a winner. You did that: turn her into a winner.
I don't know if this is goodbye or not to DWTS, but in my heart the Show won't be the same if you were to go. It would lack magic, passion, fire and excitement without you. For those of us who are not in the States, can only see you on the Show only. We look forward to seeing you twice a year there and getting to see you for almost 6 months out of 12 is heaven in itself. Since 2006, when you joined DWTS, it's been a home to you and great friendships came along since then with the other Pros and life-long friends that you've made with your celebrity female partners. A 'friendly competition' is healthy, but should you wish to continue, we'll be ever grateful to see you come back.
My votes, however, were all online (cause I'm in Canada) and at times, it was very slow in the processing of the votes. What bothered me the most is: "did my votes get electronicaly shuffled onto someone else?" I surely hope not! Every week my votes were over 1000 and in the end, I was close to 10,000 votes for you and Brandy. This is why I cry and can't understand why you didn't get into the finals. As you put in 110% in dancing, I do the same in voting for you, so that you would get into the finals with Brandy and to become the champs of this season, so I'm still getting over this myself.
Like you said, look forward and not back. I will when this season ends.
My heartfelt symapthies on the loss of your "Special Angel" (Grandmother). No matter where you go, or whatever you, she is above watching and protecting over you... as "Your Guardian Angel".
    With love, always
    Diana (your "Forum Video Girl")

  146. Maks,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. Very well done. I'm in agreement with most of your other fan comments that you and Brandy should have advanced to the finals and am very disappointed in a voting process that allows such injustices to occur. My faith in the process was lost many seasons ago (especially when you and Mel did not win in the final!) and I fully expect DWTS to suffer from the continuing failure to advance deserving amateur dancers. Hopefully the powers that be will admit the fact that "stars" in the political arena do not belong in this dancesport arena.

I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. Without you, DWTS will not be worth tuning in. The pros do a really great job and are fun to watch but you are the spark that gives it life. You will be missed.

I look forward to your future blog entries.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Well said…and Well Done.
As an avid fan, I have never missed an episode and follow all of our Pros and stars on all the networking medias.
I will say this and this only; I know you want to move forward and forget any issues that may have occurred during the voting and I respect that, but if it's not corrected or re-done or addressed before the end of this season, DWTS will loose 2 seriously loyal fans…my elderly mother and myself.
After each show we talk on the phone and compare, commiserate or celebrate victories and disapointments for the Pros and Stars. It is our way to discuss things other than her serious health issues.
Just like with American Idol and the year it was down to Ruben and Clay, the true talent did not win. I haven't watched it since.

I wish you all the best Maks. My mom thinks you're the "sexiest" Pro on the show and Derek is the "cutest" :-)

  148. Too much drama ...
It's just a dance competition where people choose who they like. I can't vote for whom I dislike, even if is a good dancer. That's unfair, but DWTS is entertainment. We have fun even with those who doesn't dance anything. We are not technical judges. We are normal people who live mostly with emotion. People vote for the dancer too. After 9 seasons the dancers also became stars. I'm from Brazil and here is no different in that sort of competition. We really need all this mobilization because of Brandy elimination?
I love dance, and because of that I'll always watch DWTS.

  149. I know there are more important things to say however YOU ARE GORGEOUS thank you for your beautiful inspirations.

  150. I appreciate this blog post with your kind words, I appreciate your passion for dance, and most importantly I appreciate the fact that you defend your friends---more specifically your friend Brandy. While I've always followed her music, this season's episodes allowed me to get her know more about her. I have to say that I got to see the emotional side of Brandy-like her states of vulnerability/her insecurities and ultimately her ability to trust you as her instructor-I was able to see all of that when she performed every week. I think you did a great job with the choreography and you were able to showcase that side of Brandy that others may not have known much about before. I can't really explain it but you two were beautiful on the dance floor. You're right, she is an amazing partner AND you are an amazing instructor. Of course, I supported you both from the beginning to very end. I was upset with the recent outcome and yes I did let ABC.com know about the issues with their website and phone lines. I will admit that I am still a bit upset but life goes on and Dancing with the Stars will probably go on for many more seasons though I won't ever watch again. Thanks for also clearing up a few things though I did not know that all of this *talk* was going on behind the scenes. I will be bookmarking your blog for future posts. Though I've watched you on past seasons, it was this season that made me want to know more so thanks for your sharing your insight.

  151. Hi Maks,

I created an account just so I could leave you a comment--I just had to! I love the fact that you speak your mind and that you are passionate about what you do. I think what happened to you and Brandy was ridiculous! The both of you worked so hard, I had to let you know that I was rooting for you and wanted you guys to win it! You both should have been in the final 3 with Jennifer and Kyle. I was appalled by all of the negative comments going around saying that Brandy felt "entitled", that she thought she deserved to win and that she was ungracious to Bristol on elimination night, blah blah blah... all I can say is, they weren't there with the two of you and doing all the hard work and putting in all of the effort. They don't even know her and yet they assume these things! And from what? A couple of minutes worth of a TV package? As far as her reaction to getting eliminated, well you said it all. I don't understand why people are so quick to judge.

I'm glad you started this blog and laid it all out for everyone. You're probably extremely busy and yet you still take the time to write your thoughts down and share them with us--and very eloquently I might add. Thank you. Thank you for sharing your talent and a piece of your heart with us. I know I don't know you personally, but from what I've seen, you are a beautiful human being, in every sense. I hope all goes well with you in the future. I'll be here, hopefully watching and following every step of the way! :)

  152. I do hope that you and Brandy come back next week during the finals, as invited, to do your freestyle and blow everyone away.
I, for one (and probably many others), would LOVE to see that! Please consider that.

  153. I have the utmost respect for both you and Brandy for taking the high road in response to this unfortunate situation. Your immediate public reactions were genuine and heartfelt. I will never, ever forget the look of sadness on Brandy's face, nor the honest words you spoke, being the true professional that you are. Much GOOD will come of this for both of you, I promise.

  154. So eloquent, deeply truthful and full of heart is your first blog entry here. I don't twitter and only recently opened a facebook account though I've been writing my own personal blogs in various sites since 2002.

I'm happy that you have decided to express yourself here though I'm deeply saddened that you had to address those recent issues that have come to pass at DWTS. I've been a regular fan of the program since the first show and early on you became one of my pro favorites.

Please know that those who have taken the time to see beyond the Maks that the ABC producers want to sometimes present you as, are not surprised that you've taken the high road through this controversy and can get to what is really important in all this and say it with integrity and honesty.

I'm looking forward to your new blog entries and I do so hope that I'll continue to see you on DWTS. I'm hoping that there will be some changes to the voting system for it is very flawed.Wishing you the best now and in the future.

  155. Maks, I can't tell you how happy I am that you posted this. I have had some very strong feelings about this season and am still upset for both you and Brandy because I honestly thought you would be in the finals and quite possibly win. I have no ill feelings toward anyone remaining on the show but I do think what happened here is wrong.

You have been and always will be one of my favorite pros on the show. You're an amazing dancer and there is no question at all regarding your teaching methods. Obviously you are an amazing teacher and if I was going to learn how to dance (which would be awesome!), I would like to learn from someone just like you. Your passion for dancing comes through loud and clear and there is no way someone can't have the utmost respect for that. It is inspiring and it is motivating.

I think passion is often misconstrued. I have the same problem on occasion. Everyone is so quick to think the worst of someone and it is very sad and needs to change.

You keep doing what you're doing, Maks. You're an amazing person and we (your fans) love you.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Maks I admire your sportsmanship, honesty and kindness, but I still feel if Bristol wins the mirror ball trophy it will be a major blow to the credibility of DWTS. The producers might have a harder time getting new contestants if they think that the system is rigged, and the viewers might start changing the channel if they think their votes don't count.

    ReplyDelete
  157. As you did with several of your previous celebrity partners, you developed Brandy into a classy, elegant, confident lady. Your work with your partners some time reminds me of "Pygmalion". I respect your leadership, instructorship, although some time abrasive; love your choreographies, productions. Will cherish my photograph taken with you and one of your pupils @ a competition in Baltimore couple of years ago.

  158. Too bad the enormous amount of your fans didn't vote to keep you and Brandy on the show. It's funny how outraged people are....yet they didn't vote!

  159. Hello, I noticed you recently in several interviews broadcast concerning the DWTS controversy of unfair elimination of you and your partner.

Your articulating facts, poise, humor, good nature is stunning. I am glad to have discovered your talent, sorry you have had to go though such strife to be brought to attention.

I am catching up on your previous performances via YouTube. Magnificent work. Such a pleasure to watch.

Many thanks for all you are presenting.

    All My Best,
    Emilya

  160. Very well written Maks! I thought you both handled yourself with considerable grace given the circumstances. Don't make any rash decisions about returning (or not!) based on this. The talent, wit and charm you share each week is a joy to experience. Sadly the voting can frequently be a popularity contest rather than reflection of talent. Keep smiling!

  161. Maks, you are such a talented and passionate dancer. The best response to all the noise is to dance your a$$ off Tuesday night. No one can challenge your skills, so focus on the performance and tell Brandy to put down the peach cobbler until Thanksgiving. Bring the house down!! Or as they say in hip hop, shut it down.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Maks, very well said. Thanks for taking time to write your blog. You and Brandy were absolutely fabulous and it just seems wrong and sad that she was voted off. I'm very disappointed. If you are not back on DWTS, I don't know if I'll watch, because you are the BEST !!! Without your passion and your being a terrific partner, it just won't be the same. You must return ! Tell BRANDY she was fabulous and I just admire her so much. I so respect and love your dancing and choreography.

  163. I watch very few shows due to the fact that my work keeps me very busy. The one show I love to watch is DWTS. One reason is you. You are very entertaining, as was Brandy. It is a great disappointment that the next time I watch the show Brandy and you will not be dancing. Hopefully next season will bring something better! Keep dancing! :)

    ReplyDelete
  164. First, Much Love. Your blog was very enlightening, learning more about how you feel and you explaining yourself. I believe it has been a very disappointing experiece for quite a few people, including pro-dancers, celebrities, and fans, except maybe Bristol. I don't think she is disappointed. You did a great job, Brandy did an exceptional job, some of the others did a great job, so that about sums it up. As you said, "it is what it is." I don't know what to expect from DWTS anymore. The show has really pulled in the ratings for ABC. I guess that is all that matters to them.

Keep dancing, which I know you will.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I think you have done some amazing things with Mel B, Laila Ali and now Brandy. Each time I was pulling for you all to win it all. I have to suppose you all are not dancing free style this week. Bummer. Hope to see you next year.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Call LAPD because you and Brandy got ROBBED on Tuesday (which is the second time that's happened to you because you and Mel B should have won a couple years ago)!!! Seriously, though, what happened to you and Brandy was a complete and utter disgrace. Hard work was NOT rewarded and once again, at least in Bristol's case, mediocrity reigns supreme (which is a running theme with that entire family). I don't think I've ever been that angry with a TV show before--although not angry enough to blow the TV to smithereens with a shotgun (lol). I can't speak to any voting difficulties on Monday night, though, as I had no issues voting online for you two.

I've been a fan of Brandy's since her first album and was excited to see that she would be in the new cast. And then was admittedly MORE excited when it was announced that you'd be her pro partner (and of course, secretly hating on her too, lol). And you two did not disappoint as you brought it every single week!! I have seen improvement, an increase in her confidence and trust in you as the season has progressed. You guys look awesome together! I don't know why you're getting flack in the media for speaking your mind, and (rightfully so) expressing your frustration with what happened earlier in the week. Oh, and no disrespect to "Fly Girl" Carrie Ann (just saw her on an episode of "In Living Color" the other day, lol) but she needs to stay in her lane and let the professionals do their jobs because without you all...she wouldn't have a job right now. THANKS for calling her out on her bull____!!! Gotta love us Capricorns...who strive for the best and call people out when they deserve it! :)

I do look forward to seeing you and Brandy this week on the Final show. I hope the producers let you guys do your freestyle (although they probably won't). I really do hope that you'll grace us with your wonderful presence in the upcoming season(s), but if not, it is ABC's loss and not yours (well it is also mine too because I definitely look forward to seeing your gorgeous self every week). Keep your head up, sweetie!

    ReplyDelete
  167. I'm still infuriated with the results...actually with a lot that happened this whole season. You were treated unfairly and all you were trying to do was bring integrity to your profession and help out your friend to move forward. It's very unfortunate for me as a fan, to have to sit there and enjoy an amazing beyond amazing performance, only to have to hear bitching about it and have you and Brandy not get the credit you BOTH deserved for all your hard work. I think it's adorable that you let her help choreograph the Argentine Tango. For a professional to let their student/friend do that, shows just how close of a bond you both have. I hope you both continue to remain close, because we find a bond like that once in a lifetime. At least you can take that away with you from this drama filled season of bitter holier than thou judges, misconstrued video packages and a very flawed voting system. You are completely underrated and I only hope that you get the credit you deserve one day. If not from DWTS, then from your OWN show.

PS I'm having trouble joining your forum. Been trying for over a week!

    ReplyDelete
  168. Maks you are amazing! I also secretly hope you'd fall for Brandy, because you two are such wonderful support systems for the other. I think you may actually find a great and deep meaningful relationship there! I'm glad you two were brought together, but please let Brandy know, that this was the time for her to go...she will go out more supported and honored than ever! I wasn't a music fan before, but now I can't wait to hear what she comes up with after this experience! Wishing you all the love and joy in the world, especially for each other!

  171. Wow Maks! I totally like a long response to this!! Worthy of being turned into a book, lol and it went away!!! I am so not happy right now! Grrrr! Anyways you can Brandy were my favorite couple and I love you guys so very much! You guys are just so cute together, I mean it! You all need to be together for real, friends? I am so tired of hearing that, i think you guys should explore that cause there could be so much more and it couple be absolutely amazing!!!! ok, back to DWTS, lol, you guys deserved nothing less than 2nd place and Monday night i had this eerie feeling that you might be going home :( that's why all my votes went to you guys that night. i usually give kyle some of my votes too. you guys having the lowest scores besides bristol was not good because she doesn't even count in my book. she could have scored a zero and she still would have made it to the finals. jennifer and kyle should be worried because bristol is going to take this thing from them and she's gonna win it. she really is, i honestly believe this. and it is not because she is soooo easy to relate to, r u kidding me? what are we watching, dancing with the normal ppl? no this is dancing with the stars, DANCING with the stars, and majority of the viewers are going to vote on the ppl who can dance which would not be bristol because she is stiff, emotionless, and in my opinion boring. I can't wait to see American's faces when she wins it all!!!! Anyways you were amazing as always and you and Brandy were great, my favorite couple in all the seasons honestly! there is just so much more to you guys, even more than we see, and i just love it!!!! could we possibly get a blog co written by you and brandy, and a blog with you talking about your realtionship with brandy and telling us some stories about your relationship? Omgsh your fans would love this and it would be soooo appreciated since we know Brandy probably wont be mentioned in many of your blogs in the future :( you guys rock and i will always be TeamBranDMC!!!! Cannot wait to see you guys on the finale and cannot wait to read your next blog! Best wishes to both of you! Get together already! lol ~AliThompson

  172. Wow,you are an amazing person Maks,I dont know why but after reading your blog it feels like I have known you for years, weird feeling...anyhow,I know the struggle all foreigners have to go through in America in order to succeed here,I myself came here 10 years ago from Bulgaria, and it wasnt an easy journey, but like u said we have to be passionate about what and who we love and believe in ourselves no matter what other people think;u r not ana arrogant person at all;u just love what u do and want to do it perfect, perfection is not arrogance, speaking out your mind is not arrogance either;people here r such hypocrites sometimes and they dont understand where we come from;u r an amazing dancer,an entertainer and a person; u did everything right at that show;u and brady gave the best performances ever;I wish I could dance like that,it has always been my dream..one day I might,we never know:)and btw I have seen that show in Vegas,LA Reve, its and amazing breathtaking show,I didnt know you were working with the dancers now,I am sure it will even get better;Good luck and keep that passion on:)

  173. Thanks for sharing yourself with others, Maks, both here and in the world. You are a passionate dancer and man with an authentic personality, qualities that inspire. The reality is that there is only partial, skewed reality on 'reality shows'. Even if I weren't a trained dancer I would know that you and Brandy should have been in the finals but as I know from being in this business, these shows are controlled primarily by the network and producers. (They are even obliged to disclose that "the results are not necessarily the lowest vote receiver"). You're eloquence and power are a thing of beauty. Bravo.

  174. Hi Maks,
I am so impressed that considering the hectic pace at which your life goes, you found the time to write this letter to hour fans. I was mesmerized by you and Brandy in the performances of the Waltz and the Argentine Tango - you cannot imagine how many times I have watched them; both of you were phenomenal. So many things shone through. There is no doubt that your work with Brandy has given her a gift for life - her weekly progress was absolutely evident. You left at the top of your game with 10s and wonderful comments. Best of luck to you and Brandy - wherever your paths lead. Admittedly, I am not able to watch DWTS in real time, sometimes but when I start to watch I do catch up. My family and I look forward to seeing you next season.

  175. I will admit that I wasn't Brandy's hugest fan, but I did not think she was a bad dancer and it was my belief that she would make it to the finals and deserved to be there. There were a lot of edits on the show that made both of you look bad and I truly appreciate your honesty and clarification in this blog. I look forward to reading more. You are an amazing dancer Maks!

  176. Maks, the longer this goes, the more I'm thinking all of this has been a blessing in disguise. You've served as a spokesperson for those of us who became so frustrated this year and, Lord have mercy, there were so many of us!! It's as if you gave us permission to breathe when you began to speak out! If you come back next season, I think you'll find that your fan base will have increased substantially and your partner will get that mirror ball. If you don't come back, I think this has served as a springboard to something greater. You're magnetic and a breath of fresh air with your honesty. You're such a showman and you have so much passion and heart. I'd like to see you with your own TV production because you've got everything it takes!

  182. Hi Maks,
I am so happy you started this blog to clear up some misinformation that is out there and to let people know how you truly feel about what transpired on last Tuesday night. I, too, like many of your fans have been posting comments on sites that defend yours and Brandy's work and am quite angry of some of the ignorant people out there disrespecting Brandy. But you just ignore ignorant people and press on. You and Brandy did an amazing job and she had truly shown the hard work and dedication to the craft of dancing. Your work with her definitely did not go in vain. I suspect that you'll be in one her videos in the upcoming future. :) I know she will be forever grateful to you because you gave her confidence and power back and she so deserved to get that back due to her past struggles. You can tell she's a sweetheart, as we all can tell you are a good man who believes in truth and justice, and as corny as this sounds, the American way. We all know the truth and the truth is she deserved to be in the finals and you deserved the mirror ball as well. I posted some comments on essenceonline's blog and you have a lot fans out there that believe in your talent and your professionalism as a teacher towards Brandy. I think the greatest thing that came out of this is the knowledge that you are never alone - you have people who care and know that right is just right; also, that you made a friend for life with Brandy - now, that's the true blessing. I think and believe that this journey in which you both have gone through is a testament of mental and spiritual strength. Keep doing what you are doing. I hope you are enjoying the AMAs. I'll be watching in 27 mins from now. Glad you and Brandy are my favorite couple on the show. I hope to see some of your work in Las Vegas and New York within the year. Take care, Maks, and God Bless! (And as someone who is currently serving her country in the military, we military folks love great dancing - keeping dancing on for all of us.)

  183. Maks,
Not only are you talented(and sexy)but you are enlightened as well. I have appreciated you all these seasons and like many others I will no longer watch DWTS and am trying to determine if I am giving up ABC all together. My only wish is that you would have had a mirror ball Your skills are A1 and I look forward to supporting you in your next endeavor.

  185. Hi Maks!
I would say that given the volume and the distance from which people are reaching out to you that this personal blog is and great idea and a great success.
I was not able to see your segment on Access Hollywood but I have read excerpts from your interview. Your eloquence is only outshined by your humility. Is it arrogant to want respect for yourself, your partner, your performance, your passion, your gifts that you have been fortunate enough to receive and generous enough to share with the world? While there are those (not mentioning any names they KNOW who they are) for whom that word is an accurate description, you are definitely not one.
This season has been the strangest of all I’ve seen. Rather than you and Brandy, it is those powers that be who should be doing an extensive self-assessment and recrimination. Neither of you have done anything wrong. Your performances have been far above outstanding. Coupling that with your quiet tolerance of this season, you have pushed the bar of excellence and professionalism to new heights.
With the diversity of partners you’ve had over the years, I have found some common ground. When each has come to you, most have the preconception of this narcissistic bad boy that the media has created. However, after they get to know you (or stop talking long enough to get to know you) they find a strong, intelligent professional passionate about this art form he has embraced his entire life, that this is not a mere game, that this person is anxious to help them learn not merely the technique but the grace as body and music become one.
And while the ‘reason’ they are doing this is essentially for the show, each has found they have received something far more than a ballroom dance lesson, something they weren’t even aware they were missing – an emptiness now magically filled, a shoulder to rest on, an arm supporting them.
You have spoken often about your embarrassment when you are asked to speak and I recognize this as coming from outside not within you. Please hear this from someone who knows what it is like to live your life being ridiculed, or worse, for reasons that have nothing to do with you.
Your voice is strong and reassuring, your accent is the warmth of your heart and your eloquence is as music felt and understood by the ear that is willing to listen, your soul.
Just imagine where Sean Connery would be now if he’d listened to those talent agents and directors, who wanted him to ‘lose the accent’. He even played a Russian with it (haha).
As I’ve said, you are the only reason I watch DWTS and each time I see you my heart leaps, I get a chill and tears in my eyes. God definitely smiled when he created you.
I read that BTF was coming to Pittsburgh. Could you please let me know if you will be with them? I so wanted to see you in New York but my bank account said ‘No Way’. If I know you’re coming, I can begin setting aside the money now.
Based upon the Access interview, it sounds like you have made some decisions with regard to DWTS. If you do, I hope and pray they give you the respect and recognition you deserve.
As I said on Friday, whatever happens, please continue to stay in touch. A beautiful soul like yours doesn’t touch one’s life every day.

You both won, regardless. Here's a quote from my guy Sly Stallone (this is for Brandy too!):

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard ...you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!"

  187. Maks, First of all, thanks for creating this blog where fans could communicate with you. You are so FRIGGIN' hot in every way. I absolutely loved every routine you choreographed for Brandy. Under your tutelage, she grew beautifully as a dancer but I definitely enjoyed watching you angle your body, point your toes and gyrate your pelvis. It is truly amazing how dance can thrill an audience. How can we see more of you?

  188. I signed up for Twitter to send a message to you and especially to Brandy. I was so disappointed to see you two eliminated right before the final. It also so sad to see the looks on both of your faces just before the elimation. You guys should have won the entire thing. Here I was thinking Jennifer was the biggest threat, when it was Bristol all along. I have watched the show since the first season and have seen some letdowns, but I think this is the biggest one. You are my favorite professional, by far. Brandy has come so far with your teaching. I have been watching her as a singer ever since she stepped onto scene and don't remember much dancing that she had done prior to this. I actually got chills, from watching her dance, starting with the week you guys did the Foxtrot. She has become so graceful. I thought you guys should have received higher scores for some of your dances, and don't see how the judges gave your paso doble the same score that they gave Bristol last Monday.

I'm not watching the show this week, and I don't even know if I will watch the show ever again. It's just been way too unfair for my liking.

Given that Carrie Ann nearly drooled over Rick Fox every week, maybe you should change your image. Think about getting a darker tan, a perm in your hair and light contact lenses. She might be nicer to you and your future partners. ;) Okay, that was as joke.

To the people who will continue to watch the show: Apparently, we do not have a limited amount of votes like the DWTS and ABC wants us to believe. If you were using up your 5 little votes on each phone line in your home like I was, that's not the way to do it to keep your favorites in the competition. You can cheat by making up as many fake e-mail addresses as you want and voting online as many times as the ABC website will allow. Our little 5, 10, 15 or 20 votes per person were nothing compared to their 300 votes per person.

  189. Maks thanks for writing this blog. You were so open and honest. I have been watching DWTS every season and I can honestly say that this has been my favorite season although I loved you and Lalah and you and Mel B too. You are a great dancer and teacher. I believe that Brandy showed the most growth and you were definitely a great part in that. In my eyes(and the eyes of so many more people) BRAN DMC are the true winners. You might not have the MBT as a reward for your hard works but I think that you and Brandy have found something even more special. I am a firm believer in the quote "Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same".
I would personally like to thank you in helping Brandy gain her confidence back. She is truly not the woman that first came to DWTS. I think that she had lost sight that she is a beautiful woman and you helped bring that out of her -reflections of a strong man. BTW I think that she has brought somethings out of you as well. The most noticeable for me is that beautiful smile of yours. I can honestly say that I have never noticed it before this season. I wish you and Brandy continued successes in you careers and personal lives. I hope that you and her will always continue to be supportive of each other. I don't know if I'll ever watch DWTS again. You guys were awesome and deserved to be in the finals at least. BRAN DMC will always be #1 in my book(on and off the dance floor).

  190. Maks, you are a wonderful dancer and teacher and I hope you continue doing what you do so well :)

Have you ever chosen a puppy from a litter before?
You don't necessarily choose the prettiest or the fastest, you choose the one that touches your heart, don't you? Well, that is what we as voters do you know,we vote from the heart.
Going into the year I was already pulling for Jennifer because I loved her in Dirty Dancing and she has always appeared to be a good person but I was also looking forward to seeing Brandy perform as well. When I heard Bristol was joining DWTS I was surprised considering all she has been thru the past few years but I was interested to see how she handled such a grueling competition. She has handled herself with grace and dignity and even humor amidst the horrible things the 'haters' spew daily and still managed to grow and improve her dance skills.
In the end I chose Bristol because she touched my heart and when I watch her dance I get goosebumps and a swell of pride for her to have come as far as she has.As far as I am concerned she has won already and doesn't need an MBT to prove it.

  191. Maks, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. You are an amazing person. I am from the UK and although I've been watching DWTS for many years, this year has been special.

It was synchronicity that brought you and Brandy together and whatever you shared as friends, will be with you both for life. Gosh... it was so refreshing to see two "real" people in action - your chemistry was sizzling and you were a joy to watch. Brandy is so different to the average celebrity - there is a grace and uniqueness about her, a rare beauty that transcends the physical and a vulnerability that is sooo endearing. I hope your friendship survives the pressures of celebrity life. If there's possibility of a romance go for it, you're a lucky man!!

Thanks again for your contributions. You are a brilliant dancer, choreographer, teacher and person and we, your fans, appreciate all you do and share.

  195. Maks,

You and Brandy dancing together on DWTS made my Monday nights special each week you were on there. I am going to truly miss seeing you two together on that stage dancing. I was disappointed and hurt and angry when you were eliminated. Since then, I have come to realize what a gift it was seeing Brandy dance and grow for nine weeks on DWTS and even though she didn't win and it was hurtful I am so glad she was able to give us the gift of sharing that experience with her and just getting a chance to see her doing something so amazing.

The beauty she gives is one of the things I've always loved about her -- first her music and now dancing. So, for that I am now happy and I appreciate both of you. I wish both of you the best at everything you do.

  196. Maks, I admire your courage and honesty. You're not afraid to speak what's on your mind. We very seldom find people with these traits in the entertainment world. We really appreciate you for what you are. You have a good heart. I wish you success in all your endeavors. I hope to see you next season. We love you.
